Carson Wentz 2021 Outlook: Hitting the Reset Button
3 years agoThe Carson Wentz era in Philadelphia started with so much promise. After a lackluster rookie campaign, Wentz had his magical 2017 season where he was the pro bowl quarterback everyone envisioned (league-leading 78.5 QBR). Then, he suffered a brutal knee injury. Philadelphia then rode Nick Foles to a Super Bowl triumph. That is when everything became more and more awkward. The key to success for the mobile quarterback was that he had time to throw. That decreased every year, culminating in a 2020 season where Wentz looked gunshy almost every snap. He threw just 16 touchdowns and tied for the league-lead with 15 interceptions. It was inevitable that a trade was going to happen. Fortunately for Wentz, he ended up with the Indianapolis Colts. With the Colts, Wentz will see the seventh easiest schedule in the league. He will also be reunited with Frank Reich where he had his most success with Philadelphia. It is fairly certain with a much better offensive line that Wentz will not be sacked a league-high 50 times in 2021. Indianapolis should be able to cut that number in half, giving Wentz much more time to find his targets. The idea is that Wentz is going to sink or swim fantasy football-wise and quickly. He is going as roughly the QB17, which is literally middle of the pack. This is again because no one is really sure how Wentz will perform. All that is known is that he is the starter in Indianapolis. If he surprises in the first few weeks, that's great. If not, he can be tossed aside pretty quickly for other depth options. At the very least, Wentz will be given one of the better chances out there to succeed in 2021.
