Buccaneers Release Shaquil Barrett
10 months agoThe Tampa Bay Buccaneers released two-time Pro Bowl outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett on Tuesday, according to sources. Barrett had a $15.04 million option bonus due next month, but he'll now become a free agent instead of collecting it. The 31-year-old's best days are most likely behind him, but he was able to bounce back in 2023 with 52 tackles (33 solo), 4.5 sacks, three tackles for loss, nine QB hits, an interception returned for a touchdown, and three forced fumbles in 16 regular-season starts in 2023 after playing in just eight games in 2022 due to a torn Achilles. On the wrong side of 30 now, Barrett's upside is now much lower in IDP fantasy leagues, but he can still be a key contributor wherever he lands as long as he can stay healthy.
