Bryan Reynolds 2023 Player Outlook: A Solid, but Unexciting Outfield Option
2 years agoOne of the few bright spots for the Pittsburgh Pirates over the last several years has been Reynolds, who had another strong year in 2022 slashing .262/.345/.461 with 27 homers and seven steals. The weak lineup around him turned that into just 62 RBI and 74 runs scored, so it was short of a great fantasy season. He is now entering his age-28 season, and despite a request for a trade appears to be heading into it once again in a Pirates' uniform. The 8% barrel rate and 72% contact rate are middling numbers, which makes his success a little bit surprising, but he limits strikeouts (23%), hits the ball hard (43% hard-hit rate), and has a very appealing launch angle profile. We project much of the same for Reynolds in 2023 - a good batting average, above average power, but then just middling numbers in everything else. The upside is that the Pirates lineup improves and goes above 80 in runs and RBI, and there is still the chance of a trade to a better team - which would make him a pretty great pick at his current ADP (90). Either way, you likely won't be disappointed with Reynolds as one of your outfielders.
