Brewers Target Power, Speed And Versatility Late In Draft
5 years agoThe Milwaukee Brewers selected Central Michigan catcher Zavier Warren with the 92nd overall pick in the third round in the 2020 MLB draft on Thursday. They went on to select Cincinnati outfielder Joey Wiemer in the fourth round and University of Louisiana at Lafayette shortstop Hayden Cantrelle in the fifth round. Warren is versatile and has a quick swing that allows him to make line-drive contact from both sides of the plate. He's seen time at third base and shortstop, too, but his strong arm makes him a better fit for third or catcher. Wiemer has great tools but not much track record for success in college. He has plus raw power with a big frame, above-average arm strength and plus speed while showing aggressiveness as a runner. Cantrelle, another switch-hitter, has sneaky pop and plus speed and has the potential to hit near the top of the batting order.
