Brendan McKay Dealing With Shoulder Soreness
5 years agoTampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said that starting pitcher/designated hitter Brendan McKay (shoulder) has been dealing with some shoulder stiffness, but the two-way prospect threw from 120 feet on Friday, so the injury isn't believed to be serious. McKay has yet to throw a bullpen session in camp. The 24-year-old hits from the left side and throws left-handed, and he posted a 5.14 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 10.3 K/9 in 13 outings (11 starts) for the Rays in his MLB debut last year on the mound. He had just two hits in his 10 at-bats. McKay will be more attractive as a pitcher in fantasy than as a hitter, especially with Tampa having plenty first base/DH types on the roster. If McKay wins a rotation spot this spring, he'll be worth targeting for his upside late in deep mixed leagues.
