Brandon Woodruff Is Deep Dynasty League Selection
7 years agoBrandon Woodruff was brought up from the minors and made eight starts for the Brewers in 2017. His stat line was a 4.81 earned run average with 32 strikeouts in 43 innings. While it does not look particularly exciting, if you look at the underlying stats, you might be a bit more impressed. During those eight starts, Woodruff was roughed up on two starts for 12 runs in 7.1 innings. For the remaining six starts, Woodruff posted a much more notable 2.78 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 35.2 innings. Woodruff pitches with a 94.3mph fastball, slider and a changeup. It is evident he enjoys getting ahead in the count with his 62% first pitch strikes. He also did well to have a ground-ball rate of 47.4%, which will benefit him in Miller Park. Aside from control, Woodruff would also be improved if he reduced the amount of contact he allowed to batters both inside (88.8%) and outside (74.1%) of the zone. Woodruff is still very young and will be striving to achieve one of the last spots in the rotation out of spring training. Woodruff should be taken in deep dynasty leagues to see if he can provide more consistent success and continued improvement in control.
