Brandon Lowe 2020 Outlook: Could Be Headed For a True Breakout Season
Brandon Lowe seemed headed for a breakout season and was a strong Rookie of the Year contender before a shin problem put him out of action for three months. In just 327 at-bats, Lowe hit 17 home runs and fashioned a .270 average while also tossing in five steals. His average Exit Velocity was 91.1 and he had a Hard Hit Rate of 46.2 and a xSLG of .507. Lowe is set to be the starting second baseman in Tampa Bay, and he is going to be regarded as a nifty selection for more upside over a full season in 2020. He does strike out a lot (31.8 K % for his career), which dampens his appeal in OBP formats. But at an ADP of 196.34, you are getting a lot of promise with Lowe. He displayed good pop and the ability to hit for a quality batting average in the minor leagues (20 homers and BAs above .290 in 89 games at two levels in 2018). The steals seemed to be a newer addition to the overall package once he reached MLB. His Sprint Speed of 27.5 suggests whatever he provides in SBs may be just a small bonus. Some players actually blossom when they reach the Majors, and that may have been the case for Lowe in the first half of the 2019 season. It’s worth finding out if he can pick up where he left off.
