Brad Brach May Be Worth Keeping Over Long Run in 2018
7 years agoBrad Brach is the Accidental Closer. He's got the role due to Zach Britton rupturing his Achilles during a workout. The good news is that Brach knows how to close out games. He registered 18 saves last season while Britton was out, so it's not likely that he'll get the yips. We rank him No. 159 out of 358, so he's a worthwhile pickup, but not until the later rounds, say... like 14 or so. He's a middle-of-the-pack reliever, a Tier 3 at No. 13 among relievers. Of course, there are a lot of other variables in play - like whether the starting and middle relief pitching are good enough to consistently hand a lead over. Two of our writers see him around pick No. 115 or so while had him dropping all the way down to pick No. 260. Britton is looking to return in June, so Brach may be good for another 18 saves or so, but an injury involving a part that's vital for a pitcher to push off or land on during a delivery is tricky. Getting Brach may pay off in the long run.
