Bobby Witt Jr. 2023 Player Outlook: Massive Ceiling Justifies The Draft Price
2 years agoWitt Jr. did not disappoint in his rookie year. He shook off some struggles early on and powered through to a very useful fantasy season, hitting 20 homers and stealing 30 bags. The .254/.294/.428 triple-slash line leaves something to be desired, and he fell short of elite in counting stats with 82 runs and 80 RBI. However, his 21.4% K% and 8.7% Brl% are a very impressive coupling of stats for a rookie, and Witt's sprint speed was top-three in the league. He showed off some of his elite swing speed with a few balls hit above 114 miles per hour; it's really hard to argue he's not one of the game's top athletes. At the still ripe age of 22, the sky is the limit here. Even if he doesn't take a big step forward in 2023, the homers and steals he will provide should be enough to pay off most of his draft cost. It may feel risky to pull the trigger on Witt Jr. in the top 25, but the 30-30-.300 batting average ceiling makes it worthwhile.
