Bobby Wagner 2020 Outlook: Wagner Remains A Prime IDP Pick
5 years agoBobby Wagner continued to play at an elite IDP level in 2019, finishing in the Top 3 in overall points for the third time in four seasons. Wagner led the NFL in tackles with a new career high of 159. He also added three sacks and had an interception for some bonus points, and finished with six passes defensed. It was the second time in four seasons that Wagner soared past the 150-tackle mark. He was needed to be highly active, as the defensive line was an issue for Seattle last season, and losing key defensive tackle Jarran Reed for six games certainly hurt. Wagner is heading into his ninth season, and his future beyond 2020 is not certain with Seattle’s drafting of Jordyn Brooks in the first round. Wagner has been a somewhat unsung core piece of the Seattle defense since 2012, and has continued to play at a high level while much has changed around him in terms of personnel. He has remained durable despite his tenacious approach, missing only two games in the past five seasons. The Seahawks have made some moves to bolster the defensive line, and with Reed back at DT with an improving Poona Ford, Wagner should be freed up to still make a high amount of stops. He is so reliable at a high level that Wagner should be one of the first five IDPs drafted in most leagues. Wagner needs a strong season to ensure he is not a candidate to be replaced at MLB in Seattle after 2020.
