Austin Ekeler 2020 Outlook: The Little Engine That Could
5 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler will take over as the primary option in 2020 after Melvin Gordon signed with Denver during the offseason. With Gordon out of the equation, his 132 rushes from last season may go up, and with Tyrod Taylor behind center, so will his 4.2 YPC. Not only will teams need to focus on Ekeler, but they will also need to account for a quarterback who can scramble in his own right. The 92 receptions and 993 receiving yards will likely go down a bit, but it is not a guarantee as we thought the same about Christian McCaffrey last season after having over 100 catches in 2018. He could be a steal in the early second-round of fantasy drafts on a team who could become very reliant on the running back position with the limited Taylor behind center. Using the run game and short pass plays should make Ekeler the primary beneficiary of this scheme. So, do not shy away from him in drafts, or you may regret it at the end of the season.
