6 years agoMontreal Canadiens goaltender Antti Niemi stopped 38 of the 42 shots that he faced as he took his first loss of the season. Niemi had a save percentage of .905 in the game, which is his highest mark of the year and the best showing of his last five starts. It is an odd turn of fate that Niemi took his first loss in a game where he posted his highest save percentage, but it underscores how little you can trust the backup goaltender when he gets an occasional start. Niemi may still have a sporadic burst of brilliance between the pipes, but on most nights he is better off left on the waiver wire.--Russ Ivanac - RotoBaller
