Angels Owner Wants To Keep Shohei Ohtani
2 years agoLos Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno said that he wants to keep two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, who will be eligible for free agency after the 2023 season. It's one of the sport's biggest upcoming storylines and should result in a record-breaking contract by likely $100 million or more. "I'd like to keep Ohtani," Moreno said. "He's a one of a kind, He's a great person. He's obviously one of the most popular baseball players in the world, and he's an international star." But with winning being Ohtani's main goal, the Japanese sensation may prefer to go elsewhere, via a trade or free agency. However, one rival estimated the Angels have a "five percent chance" to sign Ohtani long term. The Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Mets are all expected to be involved. Regardless of where Ohtani is playing in 2024 and beyond, he'll remain a high-end fantasy asset as both a starting pitcher and hitter.
