Andrew Vaughn 2023 MLB Player Outlook: White Sox's Everyday First Baseman Should Continue To Make Strides Offensively
2 years agoChicago White Sox first baseman/outfielder Andrew Vaughn posted respectable totals in his second big league season. The No. 3 pick overall in the 2019 MLB Draft slashed .271/.321/.429 with 17 home runs, 76 RBI, and 60 runs across 555 plate appearances in 2022. He continues to make strides offensively and saw his hard-hit percentage increase from 47.3% in 2021 to 48.6%, while his wOBA went up from .306 to .327 in 2022. Vaughn is expected to be Chicago's everyday first baseman now that Jose Abreu is with the Astros. The 24-year-old will move to his natural position at first base and should hit in the heart of the order. Look for Vaughn to continue to improve offensively; his hard-hit percentage is in the 90th percentile, and he has hit 32 homers in his first two big league seasons. ATC projections are on board with slight improvement for Vaughn and are projecting the young slugger to slash .263/.325/.426 with 20 homers, 72 RBI, 67 runs, and a 115 wRC+ over 586 plate appearances in 2023. With dual eligibility at first base and outfielder, Vaughn should produce solid numbers and is a worthy pick at his current NFBC ADP of 141.4.
