Andres Gimenez Dodges A Bullet
6 years agoNew York Mets shortstop Andres Gimenez (hand), the team's top prospect, avoided the worst after X-rays came back negative after he was hit on the hand/wrist with a pitch last week. He will heal up for a few more days and then rejoin Double-A Binghamton. The 20-year-old has disappointed a bit in 2019 with a slash line of .232/.305/.333 with two home runs, 15 RBI and 10 steals in 14 tries in 45 games for Binghamton. He's never had more than six homers in his four minor league seasons, but speed is the biggest part of his game. Gimenez had 38 thefts in two levels last season. The left-handed hitter could be an option for the Mets sometime next season.
