Alex Bregman 2023 Player Outlook: Reliable Fantasy Starter At Top-Heavy Position
2 years agoHouston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman had a solid but unexciting 2022 season at the plate. The 28-year-old slashed .259/.366/.454 with 23 home runs, 93 runs scored, and 93 RBI in 656 plate appearances. Looking under the hood, Bregman's batted-ball profile was consistent overall. He impacted the ball at around league average while raising his launch angle from 15.9 degrees in 2021 to 19.3 degrees in 2022. The results have not yielded the HR totals he saw at the beginning of his career, but changes to the baseballs over the past several seasons are likely contributors to that. Bregman is currently being drafted at about pick 83 overall, making him the seventh third baseman off the board. Gunnar Henderson is currently going 10 picks after Bregman, but the next third baseman's ADP is 149, so Bregman more or less represents the end of the group of reliable fantasy starters at the position. Bregman's steal upside is lower than the non-third baseman hitters going immediately ahead of him, but his solid production in at least three categories makes him a solid option if fantasy managers miss on the top tier of players at the position.
