Adrian Houser 2020 Outlook: Mr. Weak Contact
5 years agoAdrian Houser was used as both a starter and a relief pitcher in 2019. Overall he produced a 3.72 ERA, 3.88 FIP, and 3.91 SIERA. Houser had two of the best fastballs in baseball last year. His two-seam and four-seam fastball were both just as good as his teammate Brandon Woodruff. Adrian Houser’s two-seam fastball had a 67.8 GB%, which was the third-highest of any pitch from every starter. Overall, Houser’s main strength is inducing weak contact. Hitters only had a 5.0 Barrel% against Houser all year, which is well below the league average of 6.3%. The low Barrel% combined with his high 53.4 GB% deems Houser as one of the better weak contact pitchers in the league. While the Brewers will probably cap his starts to five innings, he is a pitcher who can help you win your league. For 2020, Houser is planted in the starting rotation and should be a sleeper pick for fantasy owners (ADP 74). Expect roughly 170 innings with a sub-four ERA making him a discounted Brandon Woodruff.
