While A.J. Allmendinger looked pretty good in practice over the weekend, the Kaulig Racing driver dropped to 22nd in qualifying. Despite seeing the No. 16 Chevy as high as 12th in practice, the lap interval times dropped by 0.65 seconds. That represents a very significant amount of time. The prevailing thought is the Chevy could fade later in stages as longer rides without cautions becomes more likely.
