49ers Offensive Coaching Overhaul Could Make For A Slow Start
3 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers have had one of the most under-the-radar coaching overhauls this offseason. While head coaching changes tend to get the most attention, the 49ers saw the departure of seven assistant coaches, a group headlined by former offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, who is now the Miami Dolphins head coach. As a result, the 49ers made nine new coaching hires and assigned 14 new coaching titles, mostly on the offensive side of the ball. This includes Brian Griese as the quarterbacks coach, who was most recently in the Monday Night Football booth and has never coached at any level. While head coach Kyle Shanahan is often perceived as the mastermind of San Francisco's attack, this broad a turnover to the staff, along with a likely transition to 22-year-old Trey Lance as the team's QB1 could cause some hiccups as the offense finds its footing.
