Noelvi Marte, Brooks Lee, Joey Loperfido fantasy baseball trade targets for Week 16 (2024). Are Noelvi Marte, Brooks Lee, Joey Loperfido fantasy baseball buy or sells? Read the trade analysis and advice.
BALLER MOVE: Sell Noelvi Marte
ANALYSIS: Cincinnati Reds shortstop Noelvi Marte struggled to regain his timing during his rehab stint from his 80-game PED suspension.
In 53 Triple-A at-bats, Marte posted a .151/.151./170 slash line with no home runs. Despite those numbers, the Reds believed it was time to call the young 22-year-old back up to the majors.
It's safe to say not much has changed at the big league level for Marte. In 40 at-bats with the Reds since his return, he's slashing an almost identical .150/.171/.250 with a hefty 34% strikeout rate.
With Matt McLain (shoulder) potentially returning within the next month or so, time is ticking for the former top prospect to earn his spot in this starting lineup. You can't really trade an unproven prospect such as Marte in redraft leagues, so if you don't have time to be patient with Marte now's the time to jump ship in search of another player whose long-term status is a bit more clear.
BALLER MOVE: Buy Brooks Lee
ANALYSIS: Minnesota Twins rookie shortstop Brooks Lee was called up from Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday for his first taste of major-league action. Since his call-up, Lee has looked right at home in Minnesota with a 7-for-14 line with a home run and six RBI in just four games.
The eighth-overall pick in the 2022 draft has shown off the bat-to-ball skills he was drafted for early and often in 2024. Before his call-up, Lee provided a robust .350/.412/.585 in 123 at-bats for the St. Paul Saints.
Since there is a lot of uncertainty for Lee on this roster based on Royce Lewis' injury timeline, it would be unwise to give up too much for a player with an unclear short-term future. If you can get Lee without giving up an everyday starting player you should jump at the opportunity to acquire him, assuming he's no longer on your waiver wire.
BALLER MOVE: Sell Joey Loperfido
ANALYSIS: Houston Astros rookie outfielder Joey Loperfido made his major league debut this season back on April 30th. He's been up and down a couple of times throughout the season due to injury activations. With Jake Meyers, Chad McCormick, and Trey Cabbage in the fold, and Kyle Tucker (shin) due back after the all-star break Loperfido's short term status is looking unclear.
He's sitting at a .276 batting average on the season and in a baseball world that mostly relies on the question "What have you done for us lately?" things aren't looking to great for Loperfido with his .176 batting average so far in July. The young slugger has a really bright future for fantasy baseball, but 2024 is not the year for him.
