Mike Yastrzemski (OF, SF) - Week 13 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 1% of leagues

ANALYSIS: 28-year old Mike Yastrzemski just can't escape prestige and namesake as he navigates his charter MLB campaign: not only is he yet another former Vanderbilt Commodore in the MLB, but he is the grandson of one of the best baseball players of all time. That doesn't mean that he isn't making a name for himself since being called up to the big league Giants. He has hit for four home runs and a .264/.325/.472 slash in 72 AB, was on fire at Triple-A Sacramento before getting the call with 12 dingers and a 1.090 OPS, and has been particularly scorching from the plate over the last two weeks with three homers and a .976 OPS.

His 33.3% hard contact rate and 15.7% soft contact rate don't exactly leap off the screen, but they do quite a bit of damage when attached to a 49% pull rate and a combined 68% of batted balls going for either a fly ball or line drive. That certainly explains Yastrzemski's encouraging ISO of .208, and even though he strikes out often at 27.5%, he walks frequently enough at 7.5% to supplement his OBP. He has profiled as a guy with both power and speed capabilities throughout his professional career, and though he has been fighting for playing time in the outfield with Kevin Pillar and fellow late-bloomer Tyler Austin, Mike Yastrzemski is putting his Hall of Fame bloodline on full display for the Giants.
