Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Not only is he a superstar, but the third-year man is arguably the best fantasy quarterback not named Josh Allen.
However, the Los Angeles star suffered a rib injury in last week’s 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He took a shot to the ribs late in the game and remained down on the field for a few minutes.
After leaving the game for one play, Herbert returned and finished the game with 334 passing yards and three touchdowns. While the game was 10 days ago, the quarterback remains questionable for the Week 3 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Is Justin Herbert Healthy Or Injured?
The superstar quarterback will have to deal with the rib injury for the next several weeks. However, the fact that he returned to the game after one play last week shows Herbert’s toughness.
Despite the immense pain, the former Oregon Duck had an impressive 35-yard pass to DeAndre Carter on fourth down with just over two minutes left in the contest. Four plays later, Herbert threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Joshua Palmer to keep the Chargers in the game.
Will Justin Herbert Play In Week 3?
At the time of writing, there hasn’t been a report from Ian Rapoport or Adam Schefter on Herbert’s status for Week 3. However, the general belief is that Herbert will play against the Jaguars, especially after he received good news from his medical tests earlier this week.
However, the Chargers will likely wait until 90 minutes before kickoff to make a final decision on Herbert. His availability might boil down to how much pain he is in leading up to the game. If Herbert is active, fantasy players should put him in their starting lineups.
While Los Angeles could call a conservative game plan to protect their franchise quarterback, his potential upside is too much to pass up.
Last Minute Waiver Wire Options?
Unfortunately, the Chargers have a late afternoon kickoff, putting fantasy players in a tough position. If Herbert is inactive, fantasy players will have only six games to find a replacement.
The three quarterbacks I would target are Marcus Mariota, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Geno Smith. All three are available in over 75% of ESPN leagues. Of the three, Mariota is my favorite. He has averaged 16.6 fantasy points per game so far this season.
