Is Joe Mixon Out for the 2025 Season?
While Mixon has yet to be officially ruled out for the remainder of the season, fantasy managers should not expect him to return this season. Since mid-October, the Texans have not provided any update on his status, and with the season nearing the final stretch, he will face a difficult challenge to return in time.
In October, Nick Caserio, the team's general manager, noted that his status for the season is "in limbo," which is not a positive sign. Given that Mixon has yet to make any progress toward being able to practice, the veteran will likely not return this season.
With his return to practice nowhere in sight, managers should not expect to return to the field this season and should begin to look to alternative fantasy options for the second half.

Joe Mixon 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook
Given his lack of any substantial progress, Mixon carries near minimal fantasy value heading into Week 12 of the NFL season. As a result, managers in all redraft formats should feel comfortable cutting ties with the 29-year-old in favor of alternative options on the waiver wire.
When looking at potential running backs to target, managers should pivot to a high-upside stash option. This weekend, managers see Sean Tucker (Tampa Bay's No. 2 RB) enjoy a breakout showing, which suggests he will hold the lead role in the backfield until Bucky Irving (foot) returns. Other high-upside handcuffs to target are Blake Corum, Ray Davis, Devin Neal, or Isaiah Davis, who could all carry top-20 on a weekly basis if their starter were to miss time.
Managers in need of a WR should look to pick up Michael Wilson, who enjoyed a breakout showing on Sunday with Marvin Harrison Jr. (appendix) sidelined, or Alec Pierce, who is beginning to claim the No. 2 role in Indianapolis.

With Mixon trending toward missing the remainder of the season, rookie running back Woody Marks should remain Houston's lead back while veteran Nick Chubb continues to handle most of the short-yardage opportunities.
