Is Gerrit Cole Injured Or Healthy? Fantasy Baseball Injury Update

Gerrit Cole - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Injury News, DFS and Betting Picks

Is Gerrit Cole injured or healthy? A look at the latest MLB injury reports and the fantasy baseball injury outlook for Gerrit Cole.

New York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole is dealing with issues with his pitching elbow. The reigning AL Cy Young winner has not played since March 1's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. In that game, he threw just 39 pitches in two innings.

The 33-year-old ace is one of the best pitchers in the game, and losing him will be a huge blow for the Yankees, who have World Series aspirations this season. The Yankees do not want to risk Cole's health and, as a result, will take precautionary decisions before the start of the season.

How serious is the star pitcher's elbow injury? Will he miss time at the start of the regular season? Let's take a look at Gerrit Cole's latest injury update.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Gerrit Cole Injury Update

As per New York Yankees' manager Aaron Boone, Gerrit Cole will have an MRI on his pitching elbow. Boone revealed that the starting pitcher was not recovering well, due to which there is some concern about his health.

As of now, the extent of Cole's injury is unknown. Nobody knows how many games he will miss, if he does any, as elbow issues are usually quite tricky for pitchers. In an ideal world, Cole should be ready to play in the Yankees' first game of the season against the Houston Astros on March 29, but nothing is certain as of yet.

The MRI will provide a better idea of the pitcher's condition, as the franchise might need to make some moves if Cole misses significant time.

Gerrit Cole Fantasy Baseball Outlook

As mentioned above, Gerrit Cole won the Cy Young Award last season and pitched extremely well. In 33 games last season, he pitched 209 innings and recorded 222 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.63 while averaging 9.56 strikeouts per nine innings.

If Cole sustains a serious injury, the Yankees' chances of winning the World Series will suffer significantly. Given that they gave up Michael King, Randy Vasques, Drew Thorpe, and Jhony Brito in exchange for Juan Soto, losing their best pitcher will be devastating.

Hopefully, the three-time Cy Young winner avoids a serious injury. However, if he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, it would not be a surprise if the Yankees go all in to sign Blake Snell, who is still a free agent.

The Yankees rotation currently looks like this:
1. Gerrit Cole
2. Carlos Rodon
3. Marcus Stroman
4. Nelson Cortes
5. Clarke Schmidt
