Is Aaron Jones Playing In Week 3? Fantasy Football Injury Update

Aaron Jones - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Is Aaron Jones playing in Week 3 versus the Saints, and is he worth starting? Read the injury update for Jones.

Does this look like a man who just suffered an injury that would force him to miss at least one game?

This was Aaron Jones just moments after injuring his hamstring on a long touchdown catch in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears. I don't know about you, but I'm not in that kind of a mood when I stub my toe while heading to the kitchen for my mid-morning snack.

At the time, Jones told reporters that his hamstring was fine and he could have returned to the game if the score was closer. Clearly, the injury was worse than originally anticipated.

Is Aaron Jones Playing In Week 3 Against New Orleans?

Jones missed the Packers' Week 2 showdown against the Atlanta Falcons due to the injury. The former Pro Bowler missed practice on Wednesday, creating some pessimism that he'd be ready for Week 3. However, he was able to return to work later in the week and is officially listed as questionable.

Keep an eye on active/inactive lists on Sunday morning but things are trending in the right direction for Jones.

Should I Start Aaron Jones In Week 3?

If Jones is given the green light (meaning there are no restrictions or snap counts), then he's worthy of a start in fantasy football. This Packers offense, which could also be without wide receiver Christian Watson again, is sorely lacking playmakers.

In the past, Green Bay coaches may have leaned on AJ Dillon to take on a large chunk of the work as they work Jones back into the fold. But Dillon has been one of the least efficient running backs in 2023. There are only five running backs with a worse yards per carry average (2.6) than Dillon and only one of them (Josh Jacobs) has as many attempts as the bruiser from Boston College.

Running Back Attempts Yards Per Carry
Deon Jackson 13 1.1
Cam Akers 22 1.3
Josh Jacobs 28 1.6
Sean Tucker 13 1.7
Dalvin Cook 17 2.4
AJ Dillon 28 2.6

Dillon can't point to tough matchups either. Both the Bears and the Falcons are middle of the pack when it comes to rushing yards allowed on the season.

In Week 3, however, the Packers host the New Orleans Saints who have allowed just one touchdown this season, and it came very within the final two minutes of their Monday Night Football contest against the Carolina Panthers. If Green Bay wants to score points in this game, they'll need their top playmaker involved early and often.
