Five Sneaky Dynasty Fantasy Football Stash Candidates - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Joe Flacco - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Dynasty fantasy football managers need to get their hands on these five sleeper players. All can be acquired for cheap and will help your dynasty team in 2024.

Dynasty roster-building season is in full swing as leagues begin to commence rookie drafts. Eager managers are chomping at the bit to swing trades, whether rebuilding or contending.

Some dynasty leagues are deeper than others - today’s stash candidates are not likely to be rostered in more shallow leagues and can be added for free if your roster has the room for them.

When looking for a player to stash, I look for one thing: current value compared to potential future value. The players below are currently dirt-cheap and there is no reason that you can’t roster all five on dynasty rosters pending that your league is deep enough. Whether through waivers, cheap trades, or in the late rounds of rookie drafts, these five players are prime stash candidates for your 2024 dynasty rosters.

Evan Hull, RB, Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis Colts’ second-year running back Evan Hull played in just one game last season, touching the ball twice before suffering a season-ending knee injury. With starter Jonathan Taylor missing 13 games over the past two seasons, Zack Moss filled in nicely but departed for Cincinnati.

Being the backup running back behind Taylor is a valuable fantasy role, and it appears to be Hull’s to lose. Had he not suffered the injury last season, he could have split with Moss and would hold much more value had that been the case.

The dynamic running back out of Northwestern was a 2023 fifth-rounder and has incredible pass-catching ability. Even if Taylor remains healthy, he could find a role in the offense as a pass-catching back. Given that his rookie season ended very prematurely, Hull’s price in Dynasty is super low right now. Buy him now before he officially wins the backup job over Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson, and cash in later once he begins to produce.

Blake Watson, RB, Denver Broncos

I mentioned Watson in my 2024 rookie running back must-haves piece, and I will mention him again here. The Broncos’ backfield is the most murky of all backfields heading into the 2024 season. Javonte Williams is in a contract year, and Sean Payton has shown no allegiance to him. Audric Estime was drafted in the fifth round, Samaje Perine is still around, although he is the most likely cut candidate, and last year’s undrafted phenom, Jaleel McLaughlin, is vying for more touches this season.

With Williams entering a contract year and Payton bringing in “his guys” in Estime, McLaughlin, and Watson, is it farfetched to think he could be traded before the season? Williams could be moved at a low price to a team like Dallas or Los Angeles that lacks top-end running back talent, opening up touches for Payton’s crew.

While Watson is currently fifth on this depth chart, that will not remain the case. Payton has spoken highly of him, he was given a lot of guaranteed money for an undrafted free agent, and he has an elite pass-catching ability to thrive in an Alvin Kamara-esque role. Stash him while he is free and sit on him for a year while he gains value and this backfield muddies itself out.

A.T. Perry, WR, New Orleans Saints

A.T. Perry played a limited role as a rookie in New Orleans but thrived in the red zone when called upon. He scored three touchdowns over the last three weeks of the season and is a prime candidate to take a huge step forward after securing 12 catches for 246 yards and four touchdowns in 2023.

With Michael Thomas no longer on the roster, Perry projects as a day 1 starter in 2024 alongside Rashid Shaheed and Chris Olave. Derek Carr did not look his way often a season ago, with his highest target mark (four) coming in a Week 10 matchup where Jameis Winston replaced Carr.

Perry’s playstyle compliments rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler’s gunslinger mentality. While Carr may not be the perfect quarterback for Perry, his time as the Saints’ starter may be short-lived if he doesn’t produce. Mix in the fact that Perry is likely starting in this offense from the jump and is very cheap in dynasty right now, and there is no reason not to acquire him.

Jacob Cowing, WR, San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers’ rookie receiver Jacob Cowing is extremely enticing as a stash option. Given the fact that Ricky Pearsall was picked three rounds earlier and that Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle create a cluster of mouths to feed, Cowing was never drafted with the idea in mind that he can be an instant consistent contributor.

Out of all of the rookie receivers, Cowing has the single best yards per route run season tied to his name. He broke out very early in his career, averaging 89 yards per game over the last four games of his true freshman season at UTEP. Now he’s being thrown into one of the best offensive schemes in the league that can utilize his athleticism to its fullest.

Cowing reminds me of Tank Dell as a prospect and can have a similar impact once San Francisco is comfortable throwing him into their lineup. Once they inevitably move on from Samuel or Aiyuk, the opportunity will arise. Stash Cowing on taxi squads for 2024 and be ready for a potential 2025 breakout.

Joe Flacco, QB, Indianapolis Colts

A 39-year-old quarterback on a dynasty stash list? Absolutely. We are all aware of the incredible story that was Flacco’s 2023 season, where he earned Comeback Player of the Year honors after leading the Cleveland Browns to the playoffs off of his couch.

Heading into 2024, Flacco is now with the Colts as Anthony Richardson’s primary backup. Richardson has struggled to stay healthy, as he played in just four games as a rookie and also missed most of his 2021 season at Florida. While projecting injuries is not the best practice, it is better to be prepared than to be left in the dust. If Richardson is on your dynasty roster, you have to ensure that you also have Flacco. If Flacco is sitting on waivers and you don’t have Richardson, pick him up anyway. You will eventually be able to flip him for value if you are rebuilding, or you could probably toss him into the starting lineup for a few games if contending.

Gardner Minshew put up QB2 numbers in place of Richardson last season, and Flacco himself was averaging 20 fantasy points per game over his five-game miracle run in Cleveland. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where he doesn’t start any games this season, and he should be on dynasty rosters going into 2024.
