Pat Freiermuth Injury Update
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth (hamstring) was unable to practice all week and has officially been ruled out for the Week 5 contest versus the division-rival Baltimore Ravens. Freiermuth was doubtful to play this week after injuring his hamstring in the Week 4 loss to the Houston Texans.
The good news for the 24-year-old is that with the team's bye coming in Week 6, he'll have a good chance to make his return in Week 7 on Oct. 22 against the Los Angeles Rams. With Freiermuth sitting out this weekend, rookie Darnell Washington will have an opportunity for a bigger role in the passing attack alongside Connor Heyward. Neither tight end is worth streaming consideration in Week 5.
Juwan Johnson Injury Update
New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson (calf) has officially been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game versus the New England Patriots. This comes as no surprise after Johnson missed all three practices this week.
Foster Moreau (ankle) and Jimmy Graham will operate as the Saints' top tight ends for the duration of Johnson's absence, though neither of them are viable fantasy options.
Irv Smith Jr. Injury Update
Cincinnati Bengals tight end Irv Smith Jr. is no longer on the injury report heading into the Week 5 matchup against the Cardinals. In the two games that he's played so far this season, Smith has yet to get more than 17 yards and has only hauled in five passes out of nine targets.
On top of that, the Cardinals have yet to give up a touchdown to the tight end position and they allow slightly fewer fantasy points than the league average. Smith is better left on the waiver wire at this point until he proves to make more of an impact.
