Week 12 Running Back Rankings Outlooks
Kareem Hunt, Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt will face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 12. Hunt handled 13 carries for 59 yards and a touchdown, along with one catch for three yards. His 59 rushing yards were a season-high, and his 13 carries tied his season-high. With Isiah Pacheco out in Week 11, Hunt was the only back to get any rushing work. Rookie Brashard Smith was relatively uninvolved in the contest, only catching two passes for eight yards.
With Pacheco ruled out again for Week 12, Hunt should dominate touches against Indianapolis. The Colts' defense has been an average matchup for fantasy running backs this season, but the scoring potential makes Hunt an interesting play. The Colts' offense is the highest-scoring in the league, and this game has a nearly 50-point projected total, meaning that Hunt could visit the end zone once or twice. Hunt should be viewed as a viable RB2 with upside in Week 12.
Travis Etienne Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. (shoulder) was limited in practice all week due to a shoulder injury. Still, he has been cleared from Friday's final injury report and will be active in Week 12 against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, according to Michael DiRocco of ESPN. Rookie Bhayshul Tuten (ankle) followed the same routine in practice this week and was also cleared, so the Jags will have both RBs available in the desert.
The 26-year-old Etienne has been Jacksonville's RB1 pretty much all year, but Tuten saw a bigger piece of the pie in last week's win over the Los Angeles Chargers, leading many to wonder if Tuten might slowly be taking over this backfield. It's possible, but both RBs should see plenty of chances to produce in a plus matchup against Arizona. Etienne had two rushing scores in Week 11 and profiles as a high-end RB2 for fantasy managers in this matchup.
Kenneth Gainwell, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell scored two receiving touchdowns last week and will look to carry that momentum into a Week 12 meeting with the Chicago Bears. Although Jaylen Warren (ankle) practiced in full on Thursday and was removed from the injury report, Gainwell could still have an expanded role if Warren is limited in any way on Sunday.
The matchup sets up well, as Chicago gives up the fourth-most yards per carry and over 20 fantasy points per contest to opposing running backs. Starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers (wrist) is questionable, but it's worth noting that much of Gainwell's Week 11 production came with Mason Rudolph under center. While he doesn't offer a particularly safe floor, the 26-year-old profiles as a viable flex option with upside this week.
