FanDuel MLB DFS Lineup Picks (8/9/21): Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice

Freddy Peralta - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, MLB Injury News

Mike Marteny highlights the top FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks for8/9/21, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.

While DraftKings chose to embrace those weird people in Ohio and including the game starting an hour earlier in their main slate, FanDuel told them to piss up a rope. That leaves us with a rather small four-game slate today. We still have some surprisingly good options for a slate this small.

The only rain chance is in Wrigley, but it will be more of a delay than a washout. We have some great hitting weather tonight with it really hot in Kansas City and hot and humid in Chicago and Minnesota. The worst hitting weather is in San Diego and it's still not bad.

I'll be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for the FanDuel main slate on 8/9/2021. Be sure to also check out all the MLB player news, including late scratches, and the projected and confirmed daily MLB lineups for each DFS slate. You can also check out today's DraftKings MLB DFS lineup picks, and read more DFS advice and lineup picks for other sports too. Let's get to it!

FanDuel DFS Pitchers

Cash Game/GPP Anchor Play:

Freddy Peralta – MIL at CHI ($10,200)

Peralta has a 2.14 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in four starts against the Cubs this year. All of those games occurred before the Cubs sold off everything that wasn't bolted down to the highest bidder not in their division on July 30. Peralta has been slightly less sharp of late, but the strikeouts are still there and the Cubs are worse than a few AAA teams right now. I don't think you can fade Peralta in cash games.

Potential Alternate Play

Lucas Giolito – CWS at MIN ($9,500)

Giolito got smoked by the Royals of all teams in his last outing, but sometimes things like that happen. It shouldn't against the Nelson Cruz-less Twins. Giolito has faced Minnesota twice this year. He beat them both times, allowing four runs total in 14 innings with 12 strikeouts. Those lineups were better than the ones that the Twins are currently throwing out there. I love Giolito, especially in GPP formats.

FanDuel DFS Infielders

Jesus Aguilar – 1B, MIA at SD ($3,400)

I know that San Diego has the worst hitting weather, but it's still not bad. Aguilar and Joe Musgrove know each other well from their time in the N.L. Central together and Aguilar likely sent Musgrove a portion of his signing bonus as commission. Aguilar has homered twice against Musgrove in just nine at-bats with four RBI and a cool .444 average. Aguilar is in a prime spot in this order that can be sneaky good away from home.

Cesar Hernandez – 2B, CWS at MIN ($3,100)

The trade to the South Side seems to have reinvigorated Hernandez. He is hitting .303 with two homers, three RBI, and five runs scored in ten games with the White Sox. This game has very favorable hitting and very poor pitching on one side of it. We need to take advantage here.

Manny Machado – 3B, SD vs. MIA ($4,000)

Does this guy ever slow down. Machado is hitting .350 with three homers over his last ten games. It seems like any ten game stretch that you pick this year has some big numbers from Machado. This is easily the most shallow position tonight and I plan on going with the best available. That's Machado and it's not close.

Tim Anderson – SS, CWS at MIN ($3,400)

Anderson is leading off for a pretty good offense that gets to face Minnesota in a bullpen game. In this case, that's a big deal since the Twins have had the worst bullpen in baseball for well over two months now. This is going to get ugly, and I want the guy getting the most plate appearances against this dumpster fire/"pitching staff."

FanDuel DFS Outfielders

Joey Gallo – OF, NYY at KC ($3,800)

Gallo likes Kauffman Stadium. He is hitting .312 in 13 career games there and I would be willing to bet that none were as hot and humid as tonight is going to be. He only has two homers and seven RBI, which is a bit pedestrian for a guy of his colossal power, but Gallo is one of the more reasonable priced Yankees. They are all in a good spot tonight.

Max Kepler – OF, MIN vs. CWS ($3,500)

The Twins have given Giolito some fits throughout the years and most of it is the fault of Kepler. He is 8-for-29 with a triple, three homers, four runs scored, five RBI, and steal against Giolito in his career. On a slate where you need to get creative to take down a large field GPP, running the Twins leadoff hitter and possibly the highest-owned pitcher on the slate creates a healthy bit of leverage.

Lorenzo Cain – OF, MIL at CHC ($3,300)

Cain is hitting .328 since his return from the IL on July 27 with three steals, six runs scored, and eight RBI. The lack of power is a bit disappointing, but Cain is trending in the right direction and is a sure source of points right now. He has a hit in all but one game since his return.
