FanDuel MLB DFS Lineup Picks (7/29/20): Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice

Troy Klauder highlights the top FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks for 7/29/20, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.

Tonight's main slate on FanDuel starts at 7:05 PM eastern and features nine games. There are more scheduling shenanigans tonight, as the Yankees now face the Orioles in Baltimore.

We've got a few different stacks to look for as there are plenty of starters worth targeting against tonight. There are also both expensive and value options at starting pitcher.

In this article, I'll be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for the FanDuel main slate on 7/29/2020. Be sure to also check out all the MLB player news and projected and confirmed daily MLB lineups for each DFS slate. You can also read more DFS advice and lineup picks for sites like DraftKings, and other sports too.

FanDuel DFS Pitchers

Gerrit Cole - NYY @ BAL ($11,700)

Gerrit Cole leads the league in complete games after his five inning start against the Nationals that got rained out on Opening Night. It's fitting that rain would be the only thing to stop Cole, who is coming off of an astoundingly dominant 2019 campaign where he struck out 39.9% of batters in 212 1/3 innings. Cole gets to face a weak lineup in the Orioles, who had just a .307 wOBA versus righties last year. He is easily tonight's top starting pitcher option, although he won't be cheap to get in your lineups.

Andrew Heaney - LAA v. SEA ($7,100)

If you're instead looking for a value play out of your starter, Heaney is the way to go. He struck out six batters in 4 2/3 innings last time out, which is no surprise after he posted a 28.8% K-rate last year. Heaney should be able to go deeper into this start, and it will be against a strikeout-prone Mariners lineup that had the sixth-highest K-rate against lefties in 2019 at 24.8%. For this price, no other starting pitcher comes close to Heaney in terms of upside.

FanDuel DFS Infielders

C.J. Cron - 1B,  DET vs KAN ($3,100)

Cron absolutely dominates left-handed pitching, as last year he had a 160 wRC+ with a .636 slugging% against southpaws. Opposing starter Danny Duffy had a poor 4.89 SIERA last year, so Cron should see some RBI opportunities batting cleanup. The Tigers have some sneaky stack upside for cheap tonight.

Keston Hiura - 2B, MIL @ PIT ($3,200)

Hiura is the ultimate boom-or-bust play, as he hit 19 homers in just 84 games last year but also struck out 30.7% of the time. For this reason, he is worth looking at in GPP contests, where you can take full advantage of his high ceiling.

Josh Donaldson - 3B, MIN vs STL ($3,100)

Donaldson was last night's pick at third base and he rewarded us with his first home run of the season. He's only $100 more expensive tonight, so there's no reason to go with anybody else. He gets an easy matchup in a hitter's park against Daniel Ponce De Leon, who had a 4.74 FIP in eight starts last year.

Gleyber Torres - SS, NYY @ BAL ($3,200)

It's unclear why Torres is so cheap batting in the middle of the Yankees order, but we can certainly take advantage of this price. Torres blasted 38 homers last year with an .871 OPS and faces arguably the worst starter on the slate in Asher Wojciechowski, who had a 5.30 FIP with a 1.86 HR/9 in 2019. You should consider stacking the Yankees alongside Torres.

FanDuel DFS Outfielders

Shohei Ohtani - OF, LAA vs. SEA ($3,100)

With so much discussion surrounding Ohtani's latest start, it's easy to forget how good of a hitter he is. Ohtani crushed righties with a 127 wRC+ last season and will bat third for the Angels. He is a steal at this price against Justin Dunn, who is making just his fifth career start with a 5.76 FIP.

George Springer - OF, HOU vs LAD ($3,700)

After last night's events, this Dodgers-Astros game is must-see baseball. While he's off to a cold start, Springer enjoyed a resurgent 2019 with a .974 OPS that was backed by a 96th percentile xwOBA. Simply put, he can crush the ball, and he will enjoy extra plate appearances and more run opportunities batting leadoff.

Yoshi Tsutsugo - OF, TAM @ ATL ($2,700)

Tsutsugo has found his spot batting cleanup for the Rays, which makes sense given his immense raw power. The 28-year-old Japanese outfielder has plenty of upside with this low price, as he's still not on many fantasy radars. If you need a cheap power flier, he is a great option.
