DraftKings, FanDuel Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks (8/29/23): Today's Top MLB DFS Lineups

Dylan Moore - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

The top daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for FanDuel and DraftKings on August 29, 2023. Dawn Tepper's MLB DFS analysis and sleepers for building optimal DFS rosters.

Happy Tuesday, RotoBallers! We have a 12-game slate tonight, and at first glance, we have a lot of strong arms with great matchups: Dean Kremer versus Cleveland, George Kirby versus Oakland, Alex Cobb versus Cincinnati, and Charlie Morton versus Colorado (I said it.), to name a few.

I'm a tournament gal, and while I usually fade the Coors game, I'm going to have to have some Braves action tonight. When targeting games in Colorado that will certainly be chalky, I look to fade some of the stronger bats (Matt Olson and Ronald Acuna Jr., for example) and take chances on batters toward the bottom of the lineup (lefty Michael Harris is in play in my tournament lineups tonight). Another way to be different is to use a low-owned secondary stack, say Chicago Cubs versus Corbin Burnes.

This article will provide my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 8/29/2023 and the slate locking at 7:05 p.m. ET. The lineup picks will range from some elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. You can also read more DFS advice and lineup picks for other sports here. Monitoring injury news and today's MLB starting lineups is also essential. Now that we got all that out of the way, it's onto the picks! DraftKings, FanDuel Pitchers - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

George Kirby, SEA vs. OAK ($9,700 DK, $10,800 FD)

Oakland has been sneaky lately, surprising many of us with their bats these last few games. They have won six of their last ten games but lost their last three in a row. As the Fresh Prince said to the alien in "Independence Day": "Welcome to Earth"!

Kirby has a 25% strikeout rate and the A's strikeout 27% of the time. They have a .158 ISO for the year and, versus righties, a .130 ISO and 87 wRC+. Kirby has a 3.28 ERA and a 3.79 xFIP, coming in just under 10k on DraftKings. Kirby will be anchoring many of my lineups and is a solid SP1 tonight in Seattle.

Cole Ragans, KC vs. PIT ($6,000 DK, $6,600 FD)

As my colleague Thunder Dan proclaimed yesterday, today is Cole Ragans Day! At $6,000 on DraftKings, Ragans is an excellent value tonight versus the Pirates at Kauffman Stadium.

Versus left-handed pitchers, Pittsburgh has a 23% strikeout rate, a .137 ISO, and a 96 wRC+. They are close to the bottom of the league in BA/OBP/SLG: 27th, 23rd, and 26th, respectively, and have lost three of their last five games by a combined nine runs. All signed point to Ragans having a great matchup and a pitcher I will be adding to my lineups tonight, regardless of ownership.

Also consider: Corbin Burnes, Justin Steele, Pablo Lopez

DraftKings, FanDuel Infielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

Jose Altuve - 2B, HOU vs. Brayan Bello ($6,200 DK, $4,000 FD)

I'm going back to the Houston well today, starting with Altuve versus Bello. The right-handed pitcher has a 22% K rate, but the Astros are striking out just 16% of the time. The real numbers popping out at me for Houston are their batting stats. They are slashing .257/.330/.427 for the season, ranking them 8th, 6th, and 8th, respectively, and have a .217 ISO and 149 wRC+ for the season. Altuve and the Astros will look to have another big night tonight versus Bello and the Red Sox.

Sean Murphy - C, ATL vs. David Peterson ($5,900 DK, $4,200 FD)

Atlanta at Coors Field makes Sean Murphy a no-brainer. Murphy is slashing .636/.636/1.00 in three games versus Colorado this year, with seven hits and four runs; he's batting .274/.381/.528 for the season. In the last 30 days, the Braves have a 0.235 ISO and a 141 wRC+. The first-place NL East Braves have won seven of their last 10 games by a combined 34 points, 14 of those against the Rockies last night in Colorado. Let's do it again, Atlanta. Stack them up in cash games; in tournaments, look for bats in the lower part of the order to differentiate yourself from the rest of the DFS field.

Ryan Jeffers - C, MIN vs. Gavin Williams ($3,400 DK, $2,900 FD)

I had a Minnesota stack last night, thinking that their .215 ISO would get me some runs, and boy, did they do some damage! I see that happening again tonight at home as they face Williams and the Guardians. In Jeffers' last five games, he is slashing .278/.381/.500 with one home run and five RBI, and in 40 games at home, he is .308/.405/.548 with six home runs and 13 RBI. Versus righties, righty Jeffers is batting .301/.391/.481. Williams has a 12% K rate and a 4.24 xFIP, which isn't bad but higher than his 3.52 ERA. He could be tonight's sneaky bat in your Twins stack.

DraftKings, FanDuel Outfielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

Dylan Moore - OF, SEA vs. Ken Waldichuk ($3,200 DK, $2,400 FD)

Seattle has moved into first place in the AL West, and they should be, given that they've lost just one of their last ten matchups. The Mariners' .253 ISO and 178(!!) wRC+ face lefty Ken Waldichuk and his 6.0 ERA and 5.02 xFIP. Seattle is slashing .262/.333/.422 versus lefties this year, and Waldichuk has two wins and seven losses on the season. See what I'm getting at here? Moore is batting .240/.330/.531 for the season with seven home runs and 17 RBI. Versus left-handed pitchers, he is slashing .267/.340/.667. The Seattle slugger will be a central part of my Seattle stacks tonight, and he should be in yours.

Alex Verdugo - OF, BOS vs. J.P. France ($4,500 DK, $3,300 FD)

When it comes to lefty batters in Boston versus righty pitchers, Verdugo is always in my sights. Versus right-handed pitchers this season, Verdugo is batting .294/.349/.490, and in five games versus Houston, he is .391/.417/.609 with nine hits, one home run, and three RBI. Verdugo has been hot lately, recently hitting a leadoff home run in three consecutive games and becoming the first Red Sox player to do so. In today's "don't overthink it" spot, I present Alex Verdugo.

Nolan Jones - OF, COL vs. Charlie Morton ($4,600 DK, $3,600 FD)

Jones has come up in several of my articles lately, and for good reason: he is slashing .275/.354/.494 for the season and  .278/.350/500 in his last five games. Jones and the Rockies are at Coors Field tonight, and while Colorado won't be one of my main stacks due to their ISO and wRC+ sliding down in the last 30 days to .151 and 71, respectively, Jones will be part of my secondary Rockies' stacks. Jones is rolling and should get in some good at-bats tonight versus Atlanta.
