Washington Capitals goaltender Vitek Vanecek had a superb outing on Thursday against Carolina, keeping the Eastern Conference leaders at bay with 36 saves and leading his side to a 4-0 victory. The Czech netminder, who recently returned from an upper-body injury, made 17 saves in the third period alone. Vanecek now has three shutouts for the season and two of them have come in his last three starts. He has improved his record for the season to 11-7-5, and Vanecek boasts a 2.26 goals-against average with a .920 save percentage. Ilya Samsonov (upper body) missed Thursday's matchup, so Vanecek could be set for a lot more action in the upcoming games.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
