The Washington Capitals received encouraging news on goaltender Vitek Vanecek, who was activated from Injured Reserve and loaned to the organization's AHL affiliate to complete a conditioning stint. The 26-year-old goalie hasn't played since Feb. 1. When healthy, he's been the club's best goaltender with a .915 save percentage and 2.39 GAA in 24 games. Ilya Samsonov has carried the load more recently and has a 17-9-3 record but he sports an underwhelming .904 save percentage and 2.85 GAA. Vanecek was actually lost by Washington to the Seattle Kraken during the expansion draft but the new club made the curious decision to shed his contract back to the Capitals while committing long-term to Philipp Grubauer, who has struggled.--Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
