Richie James Needs Surgery

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver/kick returner Richie James (knee) needs surgery that is expected to keep him out at least six weeks, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. There goes most of James' deep league sleeper appeal as the team's potential slot receiver. The 25-year-old set career-highs in 2020 in offensive snaps (405), catches (23) and receiving yards (394), but he'll have enough time to return after the start of the regular season and carve out a role that could make him relevant in deeper fantasy leagues. Mohamed Sanu, Trent Sherfield, Jalen Hurd, Nsimba Webster, Jauan Jennings and others will look to capitalize behind Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel early in the season.
