Zach Plesac Wins Final Rotation Spot
Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Zach Plesac will be the fifth starter to begin the season, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Plesac had been optioned to Triple-A Columbus back in March, but he's evidently impressed enough this summer to win the final spot in the rotation. He beat out Adam Plutko for the job. Plesac posted a 3.81 ERA in his 21-start debut last year, but that came with a lackluster 4.94 FIP and 5.13 SIERA. His upside is limited due to a lack of strikeouts, but he could be in line for wins with a solid offense backing him.
