The New York Islanders have signed prized goaltending prospect Ilya Sorokin to a one-year entry-level contract worth $925,000 on Monday. The 24-year-old, a top netminder in the Kontinental Hockey League over the past few years, is fresh off a sparkling season with CSKA Moskva - posting a 1.50-goals against average and a .935 save percentage in 40 appearances in 2019-2020. Sorokin will likely be given a shot to earn time in the crease for the Isles during the Stanley Cup Qualifiers but the starting job currently belongs to fellow Russian netminder Semyon Varlamov at this very moment.
