Peter Alonso Ties NL Home Run Rookie Record
New York Mets first baseman Peter Alonso clobbered his 39th home run Thursday night, tying the National League record for most home runs in a season by a rookie, and there's still 42 games left to play. The 24-year-old had a 5-for-5 performance, driving in six runs as the Mets prevailed, 10-8 over the Braves in Atlanta. Alonso has been an instrumental part of this club the whole way, poised to finish off a historic season with multiple broken records. After the NL rookie record, Alonso will be two home runs away from setting the club record for home runs in a season, currently 41.
