Masahiro Tanaka Has Strong Start Wasted Late

It wasn't the first time this happened in 2019, but Masahiro Tanaka posted an excellent start and wound up without a victory to show for it. Making his scheduled start after exiting last time with a shin injury, the 30-year-old went six innings at Camden Yards Thursday afternoon. He allowed just one run on five hits, striking out five along the way. His afternoon capped off with 95 pitches thrown and his team holding a a two-run lead. While that lead grew to four in the ensuing innings, his bullpen imploded in the eighth, costing him a victory. Regardless, Tanaka continues his early success, now boasting a 2.94 ERA, with a fourth consecutive quality start.
