Jerry Vasto Lit Up In Debut

Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Jerry Vasto finally got his chance to throw to big-league hitters on Sunday, but it didn't quite go as planned. Vasto was brought in when the score was 4-2 and Colorado was still in the game. Unfortunately, Vasto gave up a pair of runs on a bases-clearing triple by red-hot Paul Goldschmidt and only recorded two outs before he was replaced by Chris Rusin. Vasto was lights-out in short relief at Triple-A Albuquerque this year, recording a 1.71 ERA over 21 innings so far in 2018. Having been called up on Sunday to replace the DLed Scott Oberg, Vasto could take advantage in the severely depleted and bad bullpen to excel and establish an ongoing role for himself, but it will take better outings than this to do that.
