San Diego Padres third baseman Christian Villanueva extended his slump Tuesday against the Washington Nationals, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout. Villanueva is now hitless in his last 24 at-bats and has just two hits in his last 34 at-bats. His average has plummeted from .348 to .252 since April 28. Villanueva still leads all major league rookies in homers (nine) and RBI (20), but this is an unfriendly reminder to fantasy owners of the performance volatility newcomers can encounter. While he still has a leg up on third baseman Chase Headley (.133 average) at the hot corner, the Padres may consider giving him more rest days to regroup. Villanueva is a recommended bench while he works through his cold streak but remains a worthy streamer versus left-handed pitching (1.562 OPS).--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
