The Green Bay Packers released quarterback Joe Callahan on Monday. Callahan was signed as an undrafted free agent two years ago. He had served as Green Bay’s third-string quarterback for each of the last two seasons. Callahan had previously played for Wesley College, a Division 3 school, before making a surprise push to make an NFL roster. Callahan was most likely cut to make room for quarterback Tim Boyle from Eastern Kentucky, who is expected to sign with the Packers. Callahan provided a nice story and had some respectable preseason showings. However, he lacks the talent to contribute on the field. With Green Bay trading for quarterback DeShone Kizer this offseason, the writing has been on the wall that there would likely be no room for Callahan on Green Bay’s roster in 2018.--Tyger McGuiggan
