The Chicago Cubs have named Victor Caratini the team’s backup catcher. He has beat out veteran Chris Gimenez. It’s a bit of a surprise as Gimenez has experience with the Cubs big free-agent signee Yu Darvish. Caratini hit .243 this spring, but it was enough to earn him the backup spot behind starting catcher Willson Contreras. Aside from daily leagues, Caratini can be avoided.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller
