A week after winning in a playoff at the Honda Classic, Justin Thomas lost a one-hole playoff to Phil Mickelson when he failed to par the 17th hole. After the first two rounds, it seemed almost impossible Thomas would be in a playoff let alone contending, but he played the final 36 holes at 16-under, which tied the PGA Tour record. "If you'd told me I'd be in a playoff after two rounds, I would have told you you're lying," said Thomas, who would have become the first player since David Duval in 1997 to win consecutive PGA Tour events in playoffs. "But I played unbelievable golf these past two days. I'm probably more proud of myself than I ever have been." Thomas is not entered in the Valspar Championship this week and likely won't tee it up again until the WGC Match Play at the end of the month.--cmangano
