Week 4 Quick Hit Quarterback (QB) Rankings Analysis

By Zach Wilkens (@LopsidedTrades)

The Bengals are looking so good right now that Andy Dalton has put himself firmly in the top ten on a weekly basis. The Chiefs do get CB Sean Smith back from suspension but that won’t be enough to stop A.J. Green. If there is anyone still worried about Dalton I think it's essential to move past that. He has a 66% completion rate with an 8:1 TD:INT ratio and should be in your starting lineup.

To call the 49ers Week 3 loss a "rough day" would be putting it very nicely. Colin Kaepernick’s game against the Cardinals was nightmarish. I certainly think he can bounce back though--let’s not forget he threw for 335 yards the week before. Last week against the Packers, Alex Smith started out very slow but ended up with 290 yards, and I think we can see something similar from Kaep. I have him as a low-end QB1.

Speaking of Alex Smith, I am high on him as well. Last week he finished with 18 fantasy points, and I think it could have been a lot more if the offense wasn’t so conservative in the first half. Unfortunately that’s just the way it goes for Smith and HC Andy Reid. Going up against another tough opponent in the Bengals, I expect Smith will have to throw a lot once again the second half and should make for a solid streaming option.

One QB I am shying away from is Philip Rivers. He just hasn’t looked that good and currently sits at QB18 on the season. Over Rivers' last 11 games he has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns and has thrown for more than two touchdowns just twice during that time. That is the definition of a sub-par quarterback. People claimed he was hurt in the second half of last year but I haven’t seen much improvement this season.

I’m also low on Eli Manning vs the Bills. The Bills have allowed 15+ fantasy points to the opposing QB in each of their games, but in two of those weeks it was solely due to some late-game passing touchdowns while the Bills were up big. That’s not the sort of scoring I can count on weekly and I haven’t been too impressed with the Giants offense outside of Odell Beckham Jr.
