Juan Soto 2026 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Slugger Adds Speed to Top-Talent Repertoire
New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto's game reached new heights in his first season at Citi Field. The 27-year-old not only broke through with a career-high 43 home runs and 715 plate appearances, but his dedication to improving on the basepaths paid off handsomely. After posting only seven steals in 2024 for the Yankees and a previous best of 12 (2023, 2019), Soto laced up his cleats and sprinted to 38 swipes thanks to better timing and form. His average sprint speed actually fell a full second, going from 26.8 feet/second to 25.8 in '25. Don't go and think that he found an extra gear, but more recognition and pacing on the basepaths did the trick. He says this offseason was utilized to highlight defensive improvements, for the record. The massive speed boost and power show helped ease the batting average dipping to .263, which led to his lowest on-base percentage (.396) of his career. No one knows just how many of those SBs will return for 2026, but even being an 18-20 SB guy will push him into the top half of the first round. He carries an early No. 4 ADP, which mirrors his RotoBaller rank.
