Week 11 Quarterback Rankings Outlooks
J.J. McCarthy, Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy has been hot-and-cold in his limited experience as the team's starter, but the Vikings believe his struggles are to be expected as he acclimates to the NFL. The league's youngest starter at age 22, McCarthy is completing 53.7% of his passes with five touchdowns and six interceptions through four games. The Vikings certainly didn't help the young quarterback with eight false start penalties in Sunday's loss to Baltimore, which contributed heavily to only 13 carries for running backs and 42 passing attempts.
McCarthy currently has the highest depth of target of any quarterback in the NFL, and Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell acknowledged some of the game scripts have not "fit hand in hand with where you'd like the game to be for the ascension of (McCarthy's) development." While Minnesota continues taking the long view with McCarthy, managers will have to gauge their risk tolerance for playing an erratic, if promising, young quarterback during the fantasy home stretch.
Jacoby Brissett, Arizona Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett has posted solid numbers since moving into the starting role, and he'll keep the starting job while Kyler Murray (foot) spends at least the next three weeks on IR. Brissett has thrown for over 250 yards in each of his four starts and has thrown for exactly two touchdowns in each outing. He added a touchdown run as well in the team's win over the Cowboys in Week 9, and in Week 10, he threw for 258 passing yards on 44 pass attempts against the Seahawks.
Coach Jonathan Gannon has shown plenty of trust in Brissett to air it out, and this week, he has a favorable matchup against the 49ers. San Francisco has allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season, so Brissett is definitely worth a look as a streaming option or as a QB2 in Week 11.
Joe Flacco, Cincinnati Bengals
Since taking over as the Cincinnati Bengals' starting quarterback in Week 6, Joe Flacco has put up gaudy statistics. Across four starts, Flacco has thrown for 1,254 yards, 11 touchdowns, and two interceptions. The Bengals opened up quarterback Joe Burrow's (toe) 21-day Injured Reserve activation window on Monday, but Burrow is reportedly targeting Thanksgiving as a return date. A Thanksgiving return for Burrow would give Flacco two more starts under center in Cincinnati, starting with a trip to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers in Week 11.
Flacco torched Pittsburgh back in Week 7, throwing for 342 yards and three touchdowns. In fantasy leagues where Flacco may have been dropped during Cincinnati's Week 10 bye, he could be worth adding as a low-end QB1 option in Week 11.
Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers are still in wait-and-see mode with quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) as they head into a Week 11 divisional matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Purdy has not played since aggravating his turf-toe injury in the Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he's been practicing on a limited basis, and head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Monday that the team is looking for the 25-year-old signal-caller to increase his activity this week.
The 49ers "want three aggressive practices [from him], and we want to hear from him and make sure he feels good after them, too." The Niners are hoping Purdy can finally return to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 11, but he'll only be cleared if he can upgrade to a full practice and avoid any setbacks. When Purdy returns to the starting role under center, he'll have immediate low-end QB1 upside, but fantasy managers will also be wary of any potential rust from his long layoff.
Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert threw for 220 yards and one touchdown, while rushing five times for 19 yards in Sunday night's win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was another gritty performance as he continued to play behind a severely depleted offensive line. Herbert was sacked five times and took numerous hits, which led him to tape both ankles during the game. The Chargers relied more on their ground game, helping to reduce some of the pressure throughout the night.
Looking ahead to Week 11, Herbert faces a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that ranks second in interceptions (12) but has also allowed the fourth-most passing touchdowns. Jacksonville's secondary is opportunistic yet inconsistent, offering Herbert a potential rebound opportunity... if the offensive line can hold up. Keep an eye on his ankle health throughout the week, but expect mid-tier QB1 production if he's fully healthy.
Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders
NBC Sports' JP Finaly reports that Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels (elbow) will not travel with the team to Madrid to take on the Miami Dolphins in Week 11 this Sunday. Although Daniels' left elbow dislocation isn't as serious as initially feared, he will miss a second straight game this weekend and will be re-evaluated after the team's Week 12 bye.
The 24-year-old has not been placed on Injured Reserve, but the Commanders are still trying to determine if the second-year signal-caller will be able to play again this year after injuring his elbow in the Week 9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The good news is that Daniels won't need surgery, and he didn't suffer any ligament damage to his non-throwing arm. Fantasy managers should consider him a long shot to make his return in Week 13 against the Denver Broncos, and Daniels' availability the rest of the way could be determined by the team's standings in the NFC.
C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans
Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said on Monday that quarterback C.J. Stroud (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol, according to Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle. Stroud suffered a concussion early in the Week 9 loss to the Denver Broncos and wasn't cleared to play in the Week 10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 24-year-old still has time to work his way through he concussion protocol, but he's not guaranteed to return this week when the team has another divisional game against the Tennessee Titans.
The Texans could lean toward holding Stroud another week, too, after backup Davis Mills nearly threw for 300 yards in an impressive comeback win on Sunday. We'll have a better idea of Stroud's Week 11 status once the Texans release their first injury report of the week on Wednesday.
