Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 8:
Rico Dowdle, RB, Panthers
Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales told reporters on Monday that he anticipates a continued workload split between his two running backs, Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle. In the two games that Hubbard missed with an injured calf, Dowdle saw a total of 61 opportunities, which he converted into an unreal 470 yards and two scores. In Hubbard's first game back, the two saw a nearly 50/50 workload split, with Hubbard on the field for five more snaps than Dowdle, but Dowdle seeing 18 opportunities to Hubbard's 16.
Dowdle was also the more efficient back on the day, averaging 5.3 yards per touch to Hubbard's 3.4, and managing a usable fantasy performance with his 96 yards. For fantasy managers who had feasted on his last two games, it was surely a disappointment, but in the right matchup, both backs should provide enough of a floor to help navigate bye weeks and injuries from the flex spot, especially as Hubbard continues to knock off the rust.
Kimani Vidal, RB, Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers running back Kimani Vidal couldn't capitalize on last week's breakout, rushing nine times for only 20 yards and adding four catches for 15 yards in Sunday's 38-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. A negative game script forced the Chargers to abandon the run early, giving Vidal little room to operate.
With a short week ahead against the Minnesota Vikings, the Bolts may need to rely more on the ground game to balance their offense. The Vikings are much more vulnerable against the run than the pass, providing Vidal a potential opportunity for a rebound, but only if the Chargers can keep the game close. He remains the clear RB1 until Omarion Hampton (ankle) returns from IR.
Jordan Addison, WR, Vikings
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison caught nine of 12 targets for 128 yards in Sunday's 28-22 loss to the Eagles. Addison was peppered with targets from quarterback Carson Wentz all game, with the 12 targets matching a career high for the 23-year-old wideout.
He hasn't missed a beat since returning from his three-game suspension to begin the season, recording 18 catches for 283 yards and a touchdown on 26 targets in three games. The quarterback situation will be one to monitor for Addison moving forward, but he is talented enough to produce regardless. He's firmly in the WR2/WR3 mix moving forward.
Kayshon Boutte, WR, Patriots
Against the Titans on Sunday, New England Patriots third-year wide receiver Kayshon Boutte turned in his second consecutive strong fantasy performance on the back of three touchdowns in the last two games. He has put up a respectable 148 receiving yards over that span, but has done it on only seven targets. Since leading the team in targets in the season opener, he has yet to see more than five looks in any other game, averaging under three targets per game in his last six games.
Josh McDaniels' offense has long been difficult to predict for fantasy football, but fortunately for Boutte, by every metric, Drake Maye has been one of the best deep ball throwers in the league, adding value to each of those targets. With six teams on a Week 8 bye, Boutte becomes a high-priority waiver add wherever he's still available, and in many cases, can be plugged right into the starting lineup.
Alec Pierce, WR, Colts
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce has had at least four catches and 65 yards in three of his five games played this season, and he is coming off a season-high five catches for 98 yards against the Chargers. While he has yet to find the endzone in 2025, he's seen increasing involvement in a Colts offense that has been historically good through seven weeks. Likely, he's already rostered, but he is a priority waiver add wherever he's still available, as he's virtually guaranteed at least one big play per game.
Only once in his five games has he failed to bring in a catch of at least 25 yards, and his 21.1-yard average depth of target trails only Tyquan Thornton. He should continue to provide an untraditional floor, with the potential for a huge game if he's able to pop one for a score.
