Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football waiver wire outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider adding off waivers in Week 6:
Theo Johnson, TE, New York Giants
New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson is now firmly in the mix as a waiver-wire pickup heading into Week 6 after catching six of his seven targets for 33 yards and two more touchdowns in Sunday's 26-14 loss on the road to the New Orleans Saints.
Meanwhile, fellow TE Daniel Bellinger led the team with 52 receiving yards on four receptions. Both the 24-year-old's six catches and seven targets were season highs, and it's looking like he's going to need to be taken seriously as a high-end QB2 now that receiver Malik Nabers (knee) is lost for the season. Johnson's upside certainly takes a hit with Bellinger involved, but fantasy managers can't just ignore Johnson's three touchdowns in rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart's first two NFL starts.
He'll be in play as a touchdown-dependent TE2 on a short week next Thursday night against the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6.
Jake Tonges, TE, San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco 49ers tight end Jake Tonges caught seven of his 11 targets for 41 yards and a touchdown during Thursday's win over the Los Angeles Rams. Tonges has filled in quite admirably for George Kittle (hamstring), who could return as early as next week.
Through five games, the 26-year-old has 19 catches, 166 yards, and three touchdowns, ranking 10th among tight ends in fantasy points per game. The return of Kittle, whether that happens sooner or later, will push Tonges back to a depth role and keep him off the fantasy radar.
At the moment, it's too early to predict whether Kittle will return and impact Tonges' fantasy outlook next week against the Ravens.
Ollie Gordon II, RB, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon II continues to serve as the team's primary backup for De'Von Achane and a change-of-pace option with a specialty in short-yardage situations. In Week 4, he played 26% of snaps on Monday Night Football against the Jets, taking six carries for 10 rushing yards.
He played 25% of snaps in Week 3 as well and seems to be settling into a 75-25 split with Achane. Gordon has the potential to return good value in a favorable matchup against the Panthers, but his usability in a flex spot remains very touchdown dependent.
He'll probably get a handful of carries, but he'll need to get into the end zone to really be a strong option. Coming into his matchup in Carolina, he is the RB42 in RotoBaller's rankings for the week, leaving him best suited for the bench in most formats.
