NFL MVP Power Rankings: Top 10 Candidates Ahead of Week 4
Even though we only have three weeks of NFL action in the books, it is never too early to start looking at the MVP race. Which players have given themselves an early lead? Who has made a surprising push to the top 10? Drop your MVP prediction in the comments! Let’s dive in!
No. 10: Patrick Mahomes, KC
Patrick Mahomes finally led the Chiefs in the wild column, but it wasn’t pretty. The QB threw for just 224 yards with one passing score. However, with Xavier Worthy nearing a return and Rashee Rice set to return in Week 7, expect the Chiefs offense to find its footing in the coming weeks. If Mahomes can keep the team afloat, they should be in the heat of the playoff race in the second half.
No. 9: Daniel Jones, IND
Daniel Jones has continued to impress and is not slowing down. In Week 3, Jones and the Colts picked up their third-straight win. In this game, Jones went 18-for-25 with 228 passing yards and a score. While Jonathan Taylor punched in three touchdowns, Jones continues to show elite efficiency and led one of the top offensive units in the sport.
No. 8: Matthew Stafford, LA
Despite falling short to the Eagles in Week 3, Matthew Stafford enjoyed another strong showing. The veteran QB tallied 196 passing yards and found the back of the end zone twice. While he was dealing with a back injury during training camp, this injury appears to have had minimal impact on him, as he has racked up five passing touchdowns and averaged 246.3 passing yards per game.
No. 7: Jordan Love, GB
Jordan Love took the biggest hit on this week’s rankings. After sitting safe in the top 5 last week, Love and the Packers took a tough loss to the Cleveland Browns in Week 3. In this game, Love struggled to move the ball downfield, throwing only 183 yards with a touchdown and an interception. With Jayden Reed out for the foreseeable future, this offense may take a hit.
No. 6: Baker Mayfield, TB
While Baker Mayfield has not lit up the scoreboard as he did in 2024, he has brought the Bucs to a perfect 3-0 record to open the season. This past weekend, Mayfield began to find his footing, throwing a season-high 233 yards with one score. However, with Mike Evans now sidelined with a muscle strain, Mayfield will need to elevate his play to keep the Bucs at the top of the NFC South.
No. 5: Jared Goff, DET
Jared Goff and the Lions put much of their doubters to rest after Week 1. In the season opener, the offense lost without Ben Johnson as Goff tallied only 22 yards with a 1:1 TD:INT. However, since that game, Goff has led the Lions to two straight victories and looked like his 2024 self while doing so. In Week 2, he totaled an five passing scores. This past week, he led the Lions to a close victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
No. 4: Justin Herbert, LAC
Justin Herbert continued his dominant start to the season in a victory over the Broncos in Week 3. In this game, the former Oregon standout totaled 300 passing yards with a passing score. Through three games, Herbert has averaged 286.7 passing yards per game and found the back of the end zone six times.
No. 3: Lamar Jackson, BAL
The Ravens took another tough loss in Week 3, but Lamar Jackson still holds his spot in the top-3. In their loss to the Lions, Jackson was near-perfect, going 21-for-27 with 288 passing yards, three scores, and 35 rushing yards. Despite holding a 1-2 record, Jackson has thrown nine TD passes and added a 10th with his legs. He is averaging just under 280.0 total yards per game.
No. 2: Jalen Hurts, PHI
In Weeks 1 and 2, Jalen Hurts relies primarily on his legs to produce. However, in their thrilling comeback against the Rams in Week 3, Hurts had to push the ball downfield, and looked quite formidable doing so. In this victory, Hurts threw three passing scores and punched in another with his legs. Through three games he has brought the Eagles to a 3-0 record with seven total scores.
No. 1: Josh Allen, BUF
Rounding out the top spot again is Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills. Allen has looked dominant through the first three games and brought the Bills to a perfect 3-0 start. In their victory over the Dolphins on Thursday, Allen went 22-for-28 with 213 yards and three passing scores. Overall, Allen has averaged 251.7 passing yards and 38.0 rushing yards per game. He has totaled five passing scores and added two rushing scores to turn the ball over.
