ANALYSIS: The Denver Broncos added to options ot their backfield during the offseason. After opting not to re-sign longtime Bronco Javonte Williams, the team pivoted to rookie RJ Harvey and former Los Angeles Charger J.K. Dobbins. While Harvey has received most of the positive buzz from the team's camp after joining the Broncos in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Dobbins could be in the mix for a prominent role, at least early in the season.
Throughout the preseason, both Harvey and Dobbins saw time primarily with the starting lineup. During the first preseason game, Dobbins's lone carry came with the first team, which is a positive sign for his fantasy outlook.
Last season playing in Los Angeles, Dobbins enjoyed a career year, totaling 905 yards and nine rushing scores on 195 attempts. He posted an elite 4.6 YPC. Through the air, Dobbins added 253 yards on 32 receptions.
In their second preseason game, Dobbins rested alongside key starters while Harvye was given the starting nod. While this could have been for development purposes, it could open the door for Dobbins to operate as the lead back, while Harvey continues to learn the playbook.
Facing the Tennessee Titans, the Broncos will likely have a sizeable lead, which could open the door for Dobbins to be given ample carries in the second half. He is worth viewing as an RB3/flex option in all standard formats in Week 1. However, his upside will remain capped due to Harvey's presence.
